My brother Jasper and I grew up in the same little Thai village. We are both quite old dogs and have uncountable siblings. Honestly speaking, I'm not even sure if Jasper is really by biological brother. There were so many puppies in my village, many mother dogs and even more papa dogs. We think even our parents lost track of who belonged to who. We were basically one big dog family. None of the dogs in our village were vaccinated or neutered. The injured dogs had to hope they would recover without medication. We had to watch many puppies and injured or sick adult dogs die just because nobody could help. The humans in our village were very poor and could not afford to bring us to a vet and maybe didn't know about the Dog and Cat Rescue Center. Nobody had a car so they wouldn't have been able to transport us anyway. Thankfully the outside and temple team from the Dog Rescue eventually found our village and started to show up regularly. Step by step they vaccinated us all, treated the sick and injured and provided medication. Of course the whole village was very grateful for this service and started to give us the medication they received from the Dog Rescue people. Over the years there were less and less puppies and all the female dogs -and over time also the male dogs- were castrated. My brother Jasper and I got sick at the same time and since we were both quite old already, we needed daily medication and intense treatment. That seemed too much for the people in the village so the team from the Dog Rescue decided to take us into the shelter for treatment and to keep a close eye on us. We both recovered well and could return to the village. For some reason however, the village dogs did not accept us anymore and we both got badly bitten. That's when the decision was made that we can stay at the Rescue Center. We are both doing well here and had no problem integrating since we are used to living with a big group of dogs. We are happy and healthy enough to enjoy the last years of our lives here.
