BLINDI SONG (female)

Mr. Blue Eye (male), Temple: Wat Sietavib

We started the Temple Project in 2007 and it has proven to be a big success. Hundreds of dogs and cats in the temples around Samui have been treated without being removed from their familiar environment. No-one really could have predicted just how big this project would become, or how expensive, we currently deliver over 1000kgs of dry food a month, not to mention the costs of the medicines and vaccines we require to ensure everyone stays healthy. We (DRCS) are already suffering financially just to cover the everyday costs of running the shelter, so the additional money needed for the temple project is giving us cause for concern. You can help us keep this important project alive by sponsoring one of our many resident temple dogs. With your help, we can help, by keeping them healthy, happy and safe. With your help they won’t have to rummage the garbage for food or fear for their lives on the street, they can live within the safety of the temples and be checked and well provided for by our dedicated project team every week.

JUDIE (female)

Me and my other black sister and brothers were found by tourists on the very busy beach road of Chaweng. A small carton that was standing on the side of the road had become our last shelter. We were about 6 weeks old and were able to eat on our own. But there was no one who wanted to take care of us. Moreover, there were some dogs in this area. For small cats, encounters with street dogs are usually fatal. Most dogs are cat killers! The Thai people in the stores around hadn't seen us before and didn't want to keep us. We have all grown up now and the shelter feels like home to us. Unless someone nice decides to adopt us, we will happily stay here forever.

Simone from Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

Sky(female)

Fay and her Family have saved my life! I used to live on a pretty empty beach behind some rocks, a place where I spent most of my time. I was often to weak or scared to get out of there in order to find food and fresh water. Thankfully Fay and her Family took notice of me and started feeding me until they got in touch with the DRCS and organised for me to be picked up. I now live at the puppy house at the DRCS-shelter, where I currently recover. With a bit of luck I will soon feel better and strong enough to start a new life in one of the outside compounds at the shelter... all better than where I used to live...

ADELE (female)

Since I was a little puppy I believed that our family was a little strange. We are 6 brothers and sister and every one of us looks totally different. One is white/brown, one is black, the other has a little beard, another one has quite short hair….a total strange mix! Even our characters are different. I don’t remember where we were born. We were separated from our mother when we were only 8 weeks old, totally mangy and underfed and therefore nobody wanted to adopt us. It looks like we will spend our life here at the shelter- not too bad though but an own family would definitely be a dream!

SACKY (female)

My sisters Tara and Tula and I were dumped at the DRCS when we were just about 3 months old. Thankfully we could stay at the shelter in Chaweng and were fit enough to be vaccinated straight away. After the second vaccine the DRCS-Team decided to give us a chance of a free life and let us outside the gate where we could have had access to food and water too. However, we decided otherwise and went straight back. It wasn’t a nice place in the beginning but we got used to it and found some friends here too. And who knows, maybe someone will adopt us and give us a real home one day.

KERRIGEN(female)

I am already a pretty old lady with hardly any teeth left. I used to live on the street and loved the feeling of freedom and independence. Unfortunately that changed once the humans took away 'my restaurant' and I simply didn't have the energy to go and find myself a new and save place to live. So the people from the DRCS came to pick me up and brought me to the shelter. I actually quite like it here, I got my place, my friends and have found my humor again.

CALIMERA (female)

I came to Brigtte and Werner when I was a little baby. At the beginning I had to stay in my cage and I could just watch the others. I didn’t like that very much. But after 4 end-less weeks I was supposed to stay with the others of my age. We frolicked around at the kitchen – that was fun! Now I am almost grown-up and I rather lay around in the garden. But if there are any visitors I have to stand in the first rank!

OLIVER (male)

I'm scared of everything! I'm scared of loud noises, the dark, cats and even geckoes. My owners got fed up with me as they wanted me as a guard dog and I got frightened of the burglars when they broke into the house. As a result, as well as my owners having their DVD stolen, I was brought to dog rescue. I'm getting better now and am not so frightened of everything. I like it when the volunteers come round and brush my beautiful coat.

Unfortunately Oliver passed away. Our thoughts are with him.

During his time at the shelter, Sabrina from Como in Italy was looking after him. Thank you very much.

KELLY (female)

My owner didn´t like me anymore as I was pregnant and so he brought me to DRCS. Some of my babies found new homes but some of them were too weak and died. Ages ago, I lost my right front leg in an accident but I can run almost as fast on 3 as on 4 legs. I am very affectionate and always try playing up to the visitors. Sometimes I think they discriminate against disabled dogs and don´t take me home because I am have three legs. For four legged dogs it´s easier. But you cannot imagine what a nice dog I am. Just come by and visit me.

Unfortunately Kellay passed away. Our thoughts are with her.

SIDA SONG(female)

I came into the shelter because my back right leg had been broken. Nobody knows how this happened but it is suspected that someone broke my leg because I chased his chickens (a dog can't run quickly if its leg is broken). I lived for a while down at the big shelter but I didn't like it there because the other dogs were nasty to me. I started to give up and not eat so Brigitte brought me back up to her house. I now live in Brigitte's yard and I am much happier here. I was given extra special food to make me put on weight which I have and I would love it if you came to visit me.
