CALVIN (male)

Originally I only came to stay at the DRCS for a few weeks. I had terrible mange and nobody at my previous home would give me any medicine. After I was neutered and finished my intense mange treatment at the DRCS, I already prepared myself to go back home. Unfortunately that never happened. The DRCS-people told me that my home wasn't standing anymore and that new people were building fancy houses there. Apparently they didn't tolerate any dogs in the area anymore which meant, that I wasn't allowed to go back. Never mind, I got used to this place here at the shelter and have even made a few friends.

Unfortunately Calvin passed away. Our thoughts are with him.

During his time at the shelter, Paris and Gabriela were looking after him. Thank you very much.

ANDREA (female)

I used to get attacked by all the other dogs at the shelter, no idea why but for some reason they thought it was funny to bully me. Jay and Linda tried to get me settled into several compounds but it was the same thing wherever I went. I started walking around with my heads down only and of course that didn’t help the situation. Jay and Linda worked with me for quite some time and got my self-esteem right up. The dogs around me felt that change and have started to accept and like me….

Lyn from Australia is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

DAM (male)

I was brought to the DRCS by some tourists since I was very skinny and they thought that I wouldn't survive. The food from the trash bins I had to live off was not good quality and there was never enough to get full. I stayed at Brigitte's and Werner's house for many months. When I was strong and big enough I had to move to Ban Taling Ngam. First, I didn't like it there at all. But now I live in a beautiful compound with bananas and have many pals to play with. When people come to visit I take care to be the first one to greet them. Maybe someday someone will take me home!

Unfortunately Dam passed away. Our thoughts are with him.

During his time at the shelter, Brigitte and Peter from Germany were looking after him. Thank you very much.

LONG (male)

I was brought to the shelter when I was about 8 weeks old because I wandered aimlessly and helplessly on the streets. I am a very nice and beautiful dog, so it was easy to find a Thai woman who took me home. When I was about 4 months old this woman found a new boyfriend who didn't like me. As a result, the woman didn't like me anymore and I can call myself lucky that she brought me back to the DRCS and didn't put me somewhere on the streets. After a short while I settled in well again. There are 2 other dogs my age and we play all day long. Meanwhile, I have moved to the big shelter in Ban Taling Ngam and here also, the bowls are always filled up with food. I liked it better at Brigitte's house since there were more people visiting who cuddled me. However, the big shelter is better at rain since there is not enough dry space for everybody at the house.

SMOKY(female)

My owner just abandoned me and my sister Blacky here. I was very sad for a long time and I didn't even want to eat. But now I play with GŁnter very often. He would be my favourite new companion but Lucky Song, Marla and many others would like him to be their new owner too. I think I am one of his favourites too, I can feel it .

BELLA SAHM (female)

I used to have an owner when I lived in Lamai but he disappeared somewhere. I heard a rumor that he had gone back to Europe and I was hurt that he hadn’t taken me with him, or even made sure I would be OK. After a day of my owner’s absence, I went to speak to my doggie friend next door and his owner took pity on me and fed me. I stayed there for a couple of weeks, hoping in vain that my owner would come back. Not so. My doggie friend’s owners said they couldn’t look after me and him so I was brought to the shelter where I now live. I’m happy enough here but it would be nice if my owner came back.

Unfortunately Bella Sahm passed away. Our thoughts are with her.

During her time at the shelter, Sabine and Thomas were looking after her. Thank you very much.

PONG (male)

I have been living at the DRCS since the year 2000. I was brought to Brigitte's and Werner's house by some tourists together with my brother PING when we were 3 years old. I not only had lost my mother but also my fur. It was itching badly and I was always hungry. I had been chased away very often because people were scared that they might catch a disease. It was a very hard time for me! But that was over when I came to Brigitte's house. I immediately got a delicious rice meal and dry food was always at hand. I was at dog's paradise! Well, not quite. One of the helpers sprayed me with some stinking liquid every week – that was not really great. Nevertheless, the itching stopped already after the first treatment and very soon my fur began to grow. When I was brought to Brigitte's house there didn't exist a wall around the house so we all played around on the terrace. There were not so many dogs at the house and cats didn't live there at all. After a while they built a fence around the house and I had to quit my walks to the market. It even got worse! On the 15th of November 2002 the first compound of the shelter in Ban Taling Ngam was completed and I was brought there with many of my dog friends. We have a lot of space to run around – but unfortunately there are not as many visitors. I love to be stroked.

MONA LISA (female)

At first I really didn't like to be at the DRCS. Even though there is a really nice big cat house at the shelter in Baan Taling Ngam and a lot of space to run around, I needed more of that human touch. Whenever Brigitte came to visit us at the shelter I would just sit on her and cry and cry and miau and miau...until she decided to take me to the house in Chaweng. Guess what: It worked! The first three days I didn't move away from the bed...it felt sooooo good! Now I mainly live in the kitchen and watch what's going on around me. What an amazing life!
