FETSCHI (female)

Unfortunately Fetschi passed away.

TIMO (male)

I was brought to Brigitte's and Werner's house when I was 6 weeks old. I liked Brigitte immediately and felt at home right away. There were many cats my age and we played together all day long. There was even a garden. Apart from us cats there are 7 dogs living in the house and I have a lot of fun with them. When I was about 6 months old I felt the urge to put my smell on everything and all the curtains in the house. I even managed to pee in the printer! That was forgiven because I was Brigitte's special darling. However, when I left my smell on Werner both of them decided to leave me at the big shelter after castration. At first it was very difficult to in and I didn't eat for a whole day. The cat house is beautiful and we have the opportunity to run in the garden whenever we want. Even at night – that's very important for me as, in Chaweng we were locked up in the house at night. So, I have settled in well in Ban Taling Ngam. Brigitte comes to the very often and I always get a special hug from her. I am very beautiful, affectionate and nice and therefore, the chances are big to find a new home on Koh Samui.

Unfortunately Timo passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Catherine from Calgary in Canada was looking after Timo. Thank you very much!

GRAZIA (female)

I'm a mystery cat. I'm not telling anyone at the shelter how I got here and nobody can remember my arrival! I was discovered when Brigitte was checking the records of all the cats and she could find nothing on me. Anyway, I'm here and I like it when I'm outside in the cat area as I get frightened when I have too many cats (and humans) around me.Ich bin eine geheimnisvolle Katze.

Unfortunately Grazia passed away.

During her time at the shelter, Jo from New Zealand was looking after her. Thank you very much.

DAISY (female)

I am almost the same as Pretty and everyone thought there was only one of us, whereas there were two of us! Then all the cats were checked by Catriona (volunteer vet from Scotland) and Pretty and I were found out. The game was fun while it lasted. Wait till they find out there's another one of us lurking around! I've warned her that she might be caught out.

Unfortunately Daisy passed away.

During her time at the shelter, Kerstin from Sweden was looking after her. Thank you very much.

MORRIS (male)

Ain't I beautiful? I had always been that beautiful, already as a kitten. I grew up in a household full of kids, and that I didn't like at all. Children make a lot of noise and are not able to value the better sides of life, like my beauty. The little brats tormented me and threw me around like a ball. Therefore, I ran away. Fortunately, I ran directly into Brigitte's garden (her cats showed me the way), where I got some fresh fish immediately. Brigitte of course, recognized my great character and promised to keep all brats away from me.

Unfortunately Morris passed away.

During his time at the shelter, The Clayton Family from England was looking after him. Thank you very much.

DINA (female)

I was living happily with my owner when he decided to get married. That was no problem - I can cope with another woman in the house. However, after a while with our new lady lodger, she produced a baby (not eight like in a normal litter, just the one). I couldn't cope with the baby - it cried and cried and that made me howl and howl. The neighbors complained because I was howling along with the baby in the middle of the night. I was brought to the shelter and nobody here minds if I howl all night long. In fact, sometimes I do and my doggy friends join in.

Unfortunately Dina passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Catherine from Calgary in Canada was looking after her. Thank you very much.

MAJO (male)

Unfortunately Lusi passed away.

During her time at the shelter, Renee from New York in the USA was looking after her. Thank you very much.

ARAMIS (male)

When the DRCS went catching dogs again in Nathon I was one of them. Since I was very skinny at that time and had TVT on top of that, I had to stay at the shelter for a long time. TVT is a mean infectious disease which is transferred by sexual intercourse. As I hadn't been castrated I was very diligent spreading the disease. During treatment I got one injection weekly into the vein and after about 4 weeks everything is OK again. I am a very nice and affectionate pal so they didn't bring me back to Nathon. I was allowed to stay at the shelter. Here I am waiting for a new owner. But the dream of an own family will probably always be wishful thinking since I am not a poodle or a pure bred. For most Thais, only pure bred are interesting (to show off) and small cute dogs for cuddling.

Unfortunately Aramis passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Catherine from Calgory in Canada was looking after him. Thank you very much.

ANABELL (female)

I have been living at the big shelter in Ban Taling Ngam for quite some time. I was happily eating lots of food, drinking lots of water and running around with the other dogs. However, one day along came Petra, a new volunteer with a camera and a mission in mind. Every dog in the shelter was separated, photographed and identified. We felt like criminals in a line-up parade! It came to light that nobody knew my name, where I came from or how long I’d been there! Now I’ve been given a new name and l am hoping for a new sponsor.

Unfortunately Anabell passed away.

During her time at the shelter, Ingrid from New Zealand was looking after her. Thank you very much.

WODKA (male)

I am an old loner really and I had been living for quite a few years on the Chaweng beach road. In the course of time my coat got quite thin and begging for food became more and more difficult. Since I did not belong to any pack I had to be real quick quite often, when entering the territory of a strange pack. One day I was attacked by a whole bunch of dogs. And I got hurt real bad. After a very short time only, maggots infected all my injuries. Since I continued to beg for food on the beach road tourists started noticing me. Thai people hardly ever notice if a dog needs medical treatment. But due to my many bad experiences with humans, I had become quite shy. However, finally one tourist managed to catch me with a delicious chunk of chicken in which an anaesthetic was hidden. The helpers working for the DRCS picked me up. My wounds were taken care of and my fur disease was treated. After two months only I was fine again. I had also gained quite a bit of weight. It is no problem for me to return to my old hunting ground (just around the corner), but I am doing fine in the big pack and I do not want to leave. Who wants to take care of me so that I do not have to go back to street life?

Unfortunately Wodka passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Renee from Australia was looking after him. Thank you very much. /b>

SASHA (female)

My girlfriend Saba and I were wandering the streets looking for food for a long time. Unfortunately, we weren’t very good at this and were always being chased away by bigger dogs and nasty humans. The south of the island is not very amenable for stray dogs as there are only a few hotels and a lot of pets which have attacked us many times. When we arrived at the temple, we didn’t get a friendly welcome from the stray dogs there. As a result, Saba and I sustained quite a few bites but, thankfully, someone telephoned Dog Rescue. The staff from the Center turned up and give us some delicious chicken sticks which, for some strange reason, make us feel sleepy. When we woke up we were in some sort of prison cell together. There were a lot of dogs running around and playing in a big compound outside. We were given some great food and our wounds got cleaned. After a week we were released into one of the compounds. We play and fool around with the other ones now. The food is good so what more do I want?

Unfortunately Sasha passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Keum and Renate from Munich in Germanywas looking after her. Thank you very much.

HELEN (female)

I was living at the temple for quite a while when the dog catchers from DRCS appeared. At the beginning, I was a little suspicious, because there are not many people feeding us chicken wings. But these were only meant to lull us into a false sense of security since we were not able to run away from the helpers after we had eaten the chicken. I tried to run away but my legs wouldn't move and faster than I knew I sat in a cage. I was very tired and fell asleep. I woke up in a single box (that's how they call the big tiled prison cells). The next day they gave me an injection and when I woke up again I was still sitting in this cell. When I had a look at myself I was shocked to see that there was a cut on my belly. I learned that I wouldn't be able to have babies anymore. After a week my colleagues were brought back to the temple. I was allowed to stay at the shelter because I was too weak to fight for food. Since it took a very long time to recover I was moved to one of the big compounds.

Unfortunately Sasha passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Melissa from Berlin in Germany was looking after her. Thank you very much.

SPA (male)

I was living happily on the beach near a spa in Lamai. However, the spa owners weren't all that happy with me as I have a tendency to bite people - not every person, just the ones who annoy me. (one of shelter's volunteers) doesn't annoy me - she made friends with me and we played and played for hours. However, after one bite of a tourist too many, I was brought to the shelter where I now reside. It's good here - I have plenty of food and water, I have other dogs to play with and there's no-one around who needs bitten!

Unfortunately Spa passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Marcus from Mannheim in Germany was looking after him. Thank you very much.

DELA (female)

I was having a grand time playing in Nathon near the ferry terminal. I liked to run up to the ferry passengers, lick them, then run away very quickly. However, someone objected to my friendliness and threatened to do away with me! Nasty person! Brigitte heard about this, collected me and brought me to the shelter. Now, I play the same game but in a different location and run up to the visitors, lick them then run away very quickly! I'm a happy doggy.

Unfortunately Dela passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Antoinette from Illnau in Switzerland  was looking after her. Thank you very much.

(female)

I was caught for castration but, when examined by Dr Jo, it was found that I was pregnant. As Dr Jo will never abort puppies, and it broke Brigitte's heart to put me back out on the streets, I was given a home here and soon gave birth to my beautiful four puppies. As a thank-you to Brigitte and Dr Jo, I also adopted another three motherless puppies which were in the shelter

Unfortunately Mä passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Daniela from Boppard in Germany was looking after her. Thank you very much.

THUMPER (female)

I was living with my owner at the Laem Din market but he got fed up with me because I'm too old now. He brought me to the shelter and promised Brigitte money to pay for my upkeep. Brigitte says she doesn't believe my owner will give her any money for me but she doesn't care and says I can eat as much as I want and stay with her for ever

Unfortunately Thumper passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Gardy and Manny in Germany  was looking after her. Thank you very much.
Coce

COCE (female)

I had a bad injury on my back after a fight. Some animal friends took me to the DRCS. My wound healed nicely and I am allowed to stay in the DRCS. To make my life perfect it only takes a godparent now.

Bettina visited me at the shelter in February 2008. She even took me into her arms. At first I was a little scared but then it was simply amazing to be in the spot light for once and get all the snuggles. She promised me to visit me again.

Unfortunately Coce passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Bettina from Wolfenbüttel in Germany was looking after her. Thank you very much.

MARIE (female)

I share the fate of many dogs. I was very young, very skinny and had a slightly injured paw. I was lucky enough to be taken to the DRCS and I can stay here as long as I want as I cannot look after myself. Who wants to take care of me?

Unfortunately Marie passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Annemarie, Manuela and Volker from Langenzenn in Germany was looking after her. Thank you very much.

KOPI (male)

I was brought over by a tourist from Koh Phangan because I had caught my right front leg in a gin trap. The vet at DRCS could not save my leg so it had to be amputated. Brigitte would not let me go back to Koh Phangan as she knows that dogs are regularly poisoned there so I was kept here on Koh Samui. For a long time I lived at Brigitte's house in Chaweng but then I was moved to Ban Taling Ngam. I didn't like it at first but do now as there is plenty room for me to play with my doggie friends.

Unfortunately Kopi passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Michaela from Germany was looking after him. Thank you very much.

TEDDY (female)

Ain't I beautiful? I think so. But I am the best chicken killer of the island, that's why nobody wants to take me home, because I eat the neighbours chickens (in Thailand there are no fences).

TIPPI (female)

I was found all by myself on the side of the road. Animal loving tourists brought me to DRCS where I was welcomed. There are a lot of my friends and tons of yummy food. I very quickly felt like home and one gets also used to the dogs. The dogs in the house have no rights towards the cats. If there is an argument, it is always the dogs’ fault because they have to respect us. Even if we cats tease the dogs, they are not allowed to chase us! All cats like this ruling. When it comes to feeding time, they have to give us priority. Sometimes we have “guest dogs” here who do not know the rules that well, and therefore misunderstandings can happen during feeding time. Brigitte then points out the hierarchy to them.

Unfortunately Tippi passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Marita and Peter from Traben-Trarbach in Germany was looking after her. Thank you very much.

IBANA (female)

I was brought to the DRCS by Sandra from Switzerland when I was about 6 weeks old. She had found me at Peace Bungalow. There are a few dogs that hate cats and since my mother wouldn't come back one day I could not stay there. I liked it immediately in Brigitte's house and there were many cats of my age I could play with. Sandra gave me the name Iban but a while later they recognized that I am not male. Ibana is fine – but nobody calls me by that name anyway. For everyone here I am only “the little monkey”. I am very eager to credit my name by giving artistic performances and showing how to climb down the curtains professionally. At night I sleep cuddled up to Brigitte and she has already told me that I do not have to worry about my future. When I will be old enough for sterilization I will not have to stay in Ban Taling Ngam like many of my play pals. I will be allowed to come back to the house. That is very special but you have to show some effort for this. The competitors are many!

Unfortunately Ibana passed away.

KISS ME KATE (female)

I was brought to the DRCS by tourists who had found me completely helpless on the street. I am blind and the doctor couldn't help me. But we dogs are nose animals. That's how I learned to get along in spite of my handicap. But not on the street with all the cars! I have lived at Brigitte's and Werner's house since 2004. There I know every corner, every water and food bowl and every flower pot and I have no difficulties at all with the orientation. Often I smell new pals. I am lucky since I don't get into trouble very often. The others seem to take my handicap into account. Also in the dog world there are rules. But only when we don't have to fight for daily survival. Then, everyone comes first and blind dogs are bitten and chased away as well.

Unfortunately Kiss Me Kate passed away.

During his time at the shelter, Petra from Achern-Grossweier in Germany was looking after her. Thank you very much.

KULAI (female)

I was picked up at the Kulai Pan Resort because I had a very large cut on my right front paw. I stayed for ages and ages with Brigitte in Chaweng because my foot took so long to heal. Eventually it did so I was moved to the big shelter at Ban Taling Ngam. I didn't like it there at first but eventually settled in although I would prefer to see more humans around.
