GARFIELD (male)

I was brought to the shelter by my Thai owner - I had been hurt by his nasty child who had kicked me then tied some string tightly round my left front leg. Brigitte feared that my leg would have to be amputated, such was the state of it. However, with good care from Dr Joe and the other staff at the shelter, I got much better and I'm glad that I still have all four legs. My Thai owner never came back to collect me and I'm glad because I'll never see his brat of a child again.

Alexandra and Hans Peter from Ludwigsburg in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

TEMPI (female)

I was brought in from the temple as I needed to be neutered. However, until I got to the shelter, nobody noticed that I was (again) pregnant. Frankly, I'm fed up being pregnant as this will be my fifth litter in two years. Anyway, Dr Joe wouldn't operate to removed my babies as he's a Buddhist but he's promised that, as soon as my new babies are old enough, he will fix me so I don't have any more kittens. Because I've had so many litters of kittens (three litters a year for three years), I continued to look pregnant even though I wasn't. When Dr Jo realized this, he operated on me to make sure I would never have any more kittens. However, I miss having babies and looking after them. To fill this void in my life, I look after all the new motherless kittens who come into the shelter and I teach them how to look after themselves and how to clean themselves.

Sandra from Stuttgart in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

EVA (female)

My mother and I were hanging around Chaweng begging for food and we were spotted by some of Brigitte's friends. My mother couldn't be caught but the humans caught me. I was very frightened as I didn't know what they wanted to do with me. It turns out, they wanted to take me with them to Germany but nobody told me that. So, on arrival at the shelter, after being given some medication, I managed to escape by jumping over the wall. Nobody found me for days and that was after my catchers had returned to Germany with another dog. Ah well. Maybe Germany would have been nice but Thailand is also OK - I can speak the lingo here! Good news for me as my Marcus and Eva picked me up and took me home to Germany. I can now speak German and I'm allowed to sleep in the bed with my human friends and six other new canine chums! Ah, life is good!

Thank you to Jimmy from Stuttgart in Germany who sponsored me while I was in the shelter.

TREACLE (female)

I was dumped in the shelter by an unknown person and nobody realized I was here for a while. Every new dog here gets a card with proposed medical treatment but, because I wasn't ill, I didn't need medicine. Lucky for me that a puppy doesn't need a card to get food here! I was eventually found out when Brigitte was on one of her many inspection tours. However, she says she doesn't mind if I stay here for ever - I'm too young to live outside on my own. The only downside here is that, now that they have discovered me, I've had to get all my vaccinations and I really don't like these nasty needles.

After a while I found it too boring at the DRCS, so I decided to make it on my own and ran away.

While I was living at the shelter, Daniela from Boppard in Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much!

SACKY (female)

Several tourists tried to catch me because I was in such a bad condition. I gave them the runaround for several evenings until the sneaky women put something in my food which made me fall asleep. I started to waken up when I was being carried away in a sack and I really thought I'd had it. However, I hadn't and I was being taken to the shelter. At first I didn't like it here and was very quiet. However, after a full hour, I started to like it and have been particularly friendly with all the boys. Unfortunately, unlike me, they have been neutered. What is a girl to do for entertainment round here?

Susanne from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

HAMPI (male)

I was reported by a tourist who found me in Nathon. I was just sleeping peacefully in the street when he rescued me. I had been in a small fight with another dog and the wound in my headed needed attention. While I was at the shelter, not only did they fix my head, but they fixed my body so I can now no longer father puppies. Pity, as I am a handsome beast and it's good to pass on my sexy genes. I wasn't all that happy at the big shelter so Brigitte brought me to live with her in Chaweng but I quickly escaped from there. However, one of the volunteers used to come and visit me in the market where I lived and brought me back when I developed an ear infection.

Now my ear infection is cured and I decided to stroll around the market again.

While I was living at Brigitte's house, Ilka from Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much!

MISS YOU (female)

I was brought in by a tourist who had found me and my three puppies in Bophut. We were all in a terrible state and, quite frankly, I was exhausted as I have had two litters of puppies every year. Two of my babies didn't survive but the third one is OK and now living in Germany. I'm living at the big shelter, sharing a large kennel and run with another four dogs. We all get on well together and it's fun when we get visitors.

Good news: I found a new home on Samui.

While I was living in the shelter, Gardy and Manny from Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much.

MASHA (female)

My brother, Manni, and I were admitted to the shelter when our mother's owner couldn't cope with us and let our skin get into a very condition. Brigitte gave us a very special bath, which we weren't all that happy about, and medication so we have stopped scratching. We like it here at the shelter as we are the biggest puppies here. Rumour has it we are baby elephants. Father Reneos fell in love with me and took me home to St Ann's Chapel in Nathon. I live with Father Reneos and his other dog Bianca. When Bianca and I get too hot during the day, we sneak into the chapel for a refreshing sleep. As much as I love the coolness of the chapel, I'm still a Buddhist.

Thank you to Verena and Stephan from Germany for looking after me when I was at the shelter.

BIRD (male)

I thought I had seen the last of my brother and sister, Manni and Masha, as they disappeared from the house one day. However, after a couple of months, my skin became really bad that I was brought to the shelter. Who do you think I would meet when I got here? Manni and Masha. It was really nice to see them and we spend much time romping around the compound. Fun, fun, fun. I've now got a lovely home on the mainland with a Thai family. If they don't like me and I don't like them, they have promised to bring me back to the shelter. So far, I love them to bits and I just want to lick each and every one of them all day long!

Petra from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!
