MIKE (male)

Petra (my favourite volunteer) arrived one day wanting to carry out a census of all us dogs. What followed thereafter was a great game of ‘Catch me if you can’! Petra ran around the compound trying to catch each dog to take its photo. All of us dogs let her get quite near us before we ran away in the opposite direction. What fun we had that day! As the day went on, Petra’s face got redder and redder. However, in the end, we let her take each of our photos and now here I am. Nobody knows how I got here or when I got here but here I am and here I will stay unless someone on the island or somewhere wants to give me a home.

I have very big luck because was chosen from Anna from the Animal Protection Network in Sweden. (www.animalprotection.se). to fly to Sweden. She saw me on the homepage und decide to take me to Sweden, so I could have a better live. The organization paid the fly for me and now I live very happy in Sweden. I love my new home very much!

You can see a couple of photos of (Swedish) Mike in his new house. He has been rehomed by a 65 year old lady who lives in a large house with a large garden. She loves Mike very much and he is always with her. He lives on a diet of chicken, rice and vegetables. Subsequently he has put on some weight but has also gained some nice muscles. He is a very happy and playful dog and loves his long walks in the forest and the company of his new female friend! (Thank heavens he was neutered while on Koh Samui!)

Iayanna from the United States looked after Mike as he was in the shelter. Thank you very much.

SABI (female)

Our Mama was a very shy and very thin dog when she decided to settle with us in a very rich part of the island in with all those really fancy villas. Of course not everyone liked us being there and so we had to disappear. Thankfully one family there fell in love with our Mama and decided to keep her as well as 2 of our brothers. Sabi and I were first vaccinated by Jay from the DRCS-TempelTeam and now brought into the puppy house at the shelter. We really hope that we will also find our own family one day....

I was very lucky and found a new home in Europe.

During my time at the shelter, Kay and Andy from England were looking after me. Thank you very much!

DÄNG DÄNG (male)

A very nice animal friend who lives on the island has saved the lives of Big Mama and myself. She rescued us from a very evil place where they tried to have us disappeared and brought us to the Dog Rescue Centre. People here are great and made sure that we get healthy and then integrated us in one of the outside compounds. The other dogs are pretty cool here and we are happy that we are still together. No we just hope that someone will also financially take care of us...

Sylvia from Berlin in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

CAROLINA (female)

We are a group of 8 puppies who were found by a lovely young group of Yoga-People from the USA. They found us during the last monsoon when we were trapped by the water and in huge life danger. Together with Linda and Jay from the Dog Rescue, they made a plan to get us healthy again and find us a place at the shelter where we could stay. The Americans looked after us until we were fully vaccinated and strong enough to move to the shelter. Apart from some mange, we are all doing well and have just moved into a big outside compound at the shelter of the Dog Rescue. We are happy and thankful to the group from the USA who saved our lives, THANK YOU!

Debra from Manchester in the UK is now looking after me. Thankyou very much!

GIZMO (male)

I used to be a pretty ugly and naked little dog. Now my hair is growing back and I can live inside the house at the small Chaweng shelter. It's super cool here and I am happy that I could meet Barbara in person... she is now supporting my staying here.

Barbara from Switzerland is now looking after me. Thankyou very much!

NATHON (male)

The long term volunteer Jay was just enjoying a free day and doing some shopping in Nathon when she spotted me. Once Jay saw my huge head-wound, she quickly forgot about her shopping and started chasing me. Thanks to her back-up-help Linda I was caught and at the Dog Rescue Centre they finally took all those maggots out of my head. It looks like a long and painful road but I am positive that one day my hug wound will heal completely and the pain will be all over.

Niko from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

JIMMY (male)

Many people think that I'm boring, some even call me 'sleeping pill'. Yes, I like to spend my time sitting on the steps and watch the action around me but that doesn't mean that i don't know how to have fun. I'm just a little more quiet than the others and also i have to mention that I've been pretty sick for a long time and got used to being calm... Let's just say I'm COOL!

Good news: I found a new home on Samui.

While I was living in the shelter, Gerlinde from Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much.

PAUL (male)

I was chained up until i was about 4 months old and some nice DRCS-Volunteers freed me from my so called home. Even though I don't have that much space to run around here at the shelter, it is still a lot better than living alone under a table without being able to move. The other dogs are pretty cool here and I start to really like it all too. Perhaps one day someone will even give me a home...with a big garden...who knows!

Paul from Sweden is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

FELMO (male)

Since I have been at this rescue center since a very very small puppy, it feels very much like home and i know everyone here. I love the food and thanks to the temple-team who vaccinated me before bringing me to the shelter, I have had a healthy and pretty happy few months in the puppy house. Now I'm getting bigger and will soon move into a bigger compound with lots of space to run around.

Carina from Austria is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

ALHAMBRA (female)

Contrary to all expectations my owner came and took me back home.

While I was living in the shelter. Mareike from Mainz in Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much!

ALICIA (female)

My sister Kisha and I had big hopes to get adopted while we were staying at the puppy house in the DRCS-shelter. Unfortunately nobody showed any interest, we believe it had to do with the mange. We are not so picture-perfect unlike some of the other puppies who found a home. Never mind, now we live in a outside compound at the shelter with many other young dogs and it's actually quite cool here.

Babsi and Martin from Sauerlach in Germany adopted me and took me with them to Germany.

SAKET (female)

Jay from the Temple-Team found me just outside a Temple they were working at. I was in heat and many male dogs were following me... I was exhausted and so glad that Jay caught me and brought me to the shelter. It then turned out that i had some serious blood parasites which were successfully treated and I could then get sterilized. Since I didn't really belong to the temple and too many dogs live there already i had no place to go back to and so i have become an official DRCS-dog now.

Babsi and Martin from Sauerlach in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MATI (male)

I came to the Dog Rescue because of the mange treatment. My owner even paid for the care taking for the first few months and promised me to take me home soon. Unfortunately that was all a lie and nobody can get in touch with him anymore. I've settled in ok at this Rescue Center and will probably spend the rest of my days here..making the best of it.

Monika from Straubing in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SUAI (female)

Grizzly and I were actually registered at the DRCS as so called 'Look after' dogs and were only supposed to stay as long as our owner paid a certain amount for us to be able to stay at the rescue and get fed. At some point he stopped paying and nobody could get in touch with him. Never mind though, we live at the shelter now and think it's actually a pretty cool place. Even though nobody pays any money for us at the moment, we still get looked after and get to eat some pretty cool hotel-leftovers every day. Grizzly is still quite mangy but I'm sure he'll get better soon...

Babsi and Martin from Sauerlach in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

FLUFFY (male)

I came to the shelter after an accident. It was so serious that they had to take off my back leg. But hey, even on three legs I'm running almost as fast as any other dog. I'm about one year old and live in the house of Brigitte and Werner with the other little dogs and the many many cats. I like them a lot actually and love watching the fish party at night...

Daniela from Fluna in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MARLO (male)

I was dropped by my owner at the DRCS. Of course I believed that after they take off my leg and I recover, that I could go back home. That never happened and my owner never came back. Today I dont care anymore. I am happy here and made lots of friends!

Christine from Augsburg in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MEILA (female)

I was one of almost 10 dogs that were forced to start a new life at the shelter of the Dog Rescue. We all lived at a construction side, where we had a great time while the building was going on. The workers loved and fed us and all was good. Then, when the fancy buildings were finished and the fancy managers moved in, the wanted to kill us. Don't want to think about it anymore, but we were saved and now live at the DRCS.

Silvia is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

LIPPA (female)

I am everything else but happy here and have a totally broken heart. I was so happy when this lovely lady gave me a home. I stayed with her in a beautiful place right on the beach and we bonded really well. I'm not sure what exaclty happend but I heard something about a neighbours fight and I was brought to the shelter...and apparently that's where I now have to stay.... I hope so much to one day find a new owner again..

Dina and Alain from Eglisau in Switzerland are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MAI RUH (male)

I was found outside the shelter, tied to the gate. Thankfully the DRCS-people got me fresh water and some food when they arrived in the morning. I was deWormed and vaccinated and welcomed into the DRCS-family. I’m not exactly happy to be here but will give my best to settle in. Nobody knows where I came from so no chance of a return. I can only hope that I am actually allowed to stay here now and that nobody will ever tie me to a strange new place again.

Georg from Optikon in Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

PANJA (female)

I was living in a house with an old lady and my feline friends Biggi, Scarlet and Nihat Song. We kept our owner happy by sitting with her and purring all day long. She loved us very much but she became unwell and had to go and live with her son in a far off land. Our owner wanted to take us with her but her son didn't want that as he has four dogs. So, we were brought to the shelter where we now share our new house with lots and lots of new cat friends.

After some time at the shelter I got bored and decided to take my life in my own paws again and ran away.

BOUTY (female)

I am one of the most beautiful cats at the shelter. People always adore my 3-coloured fur and the of course my sporty figure, too. Why nobody has adopted me so far is a bit of a misery to me. I am good looking, get a long with the other cats and love to be petted. Never mind, I’ll keep trying whenever someone comes to visit and maybe one day I will get my own big fancy house.

Juliane from Gilching in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

HACKY (male)

I could not believe how many lovely ladies walk around here at the shelter. And the best part: Almost every day a new one is coming through the door. Of course most of them really like me and appreciate my good look and strong character. In order to impress me, they either let me have all the biggest fish at the fish-party or they jump on them like they were still alive and needed to be caught. Quite funny the ladies in this house. I love it here and have no plans of leaving

Patricia from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

EDDA (female)

Great news: I found a new home on Koh Samui.

While I was living at the shelter, Heleen from the Netherlands was looking after me. Thank you very much.

JINTY (female)

I was found by Khun Jintana on the pavement. I was only six weeks old and had lost my mother. Khun Jintana couldn't look after me as she has six dogs and has to work full-time at the Banana Fan Sea Hotel. The Banana Fan Sea Hotel is dog-friendly and is recommended by all the dogs on the island for animal lovers. I love it here at the rescue center as I stay in the house with Fanta, Blindi and Husky. It is difficult for a dog to get a place in the house as it is meant to be a cat haven. Because I am so lovely, Brigitte fell in love with me and let me stay in the house. Brigitte sometimes finds it difficult to love me as I eat her furniture. I love to play with the other dogs in the house and I particularly like taunting Blindi. I like to play with the cats but sometimes I get too rough with them and they chase me away.

Hurrahh! I now live in Germany and eat Bio sausage and sleep in a proper bed! Petra sent me as a surprise for her friend Eckhard to Germany and he's very happy with me now!

During my time at the shelter, Liliane from Switzerland was looking after me. Thank you very much!

DANIEL (male)

Brigitte and her friends were out catching dogs in Chaweng when they caught me. Normally, they take dogs away, give them some sort of operation and some vaccinations, then return the dogs to their homes. However, I had contracted some sort of antisocial infection because I had hung around with the wrong sort of bitch. As a result, I had to be kept at the shelter for several months until I became well. At that point, Brigitte wasn’t sure I could look after myself if I was put back on the streets so she has decided I must live here. Hopefully, I will get a new owner but, until then, I’m OK here and the food’s good.

After some time at the shelter I got bored and decided to take my life in my own paws again and ran away.

While I was living at the shelter, Brady and Faith Anne from the USA were looking after me. Thank you very much.

EGON (male)

I was brought to Brigitte's house together with my sister Cleo and my brother Felix. Monika, an animal loving tourist, found us on the street where we were strolling around without a mom. We were all skinny and hungry and Felix was even sick. Monika took care of us for about 5 weeks and got us on our paws again. Unfortunately, she has to go back to Germany, that's why she has brought us to the DRCS. But Monika promised us that she will try to find a new home for us in Germany. Maybe we can fly soon!

METZI (female)

I was picked up by the DRCS when I was a very small and very mangy puppy. I'm not exactly sure but I believe the reason why I used to be 'naked' was because my mum and I lived on the street and got our food from some dirty smelly garbage bins. One day my mum disappeared and that's when I was brought to the shelter. It took me some time to make friends here, probably because I was so smelly. Thankfully the DRCS-people didn't care much about that and gave their best to make me swallow those colorful pills twice a day and every so often they gave me an injection and told me that it was only for my own good. My fur has started to grow for the first time in my life and I hope that I will soon be a pretty good looking dog...well I definitely smell much better than I used to..

Metzi found a new home.

During her time at the shelter Claudia from Germany was looking after her. Thank you very much!

Great news: I found a new home on Koh Samui!

While I was staying at the DRCS, Nicole from Jegensdorf in Switzerland was looking after me. Thank you very much!

Until not long ago I had a very nice home. A big family (even though I was never allowed to go inside the house and often they didn’t pay any attention to me, I was proud to have my own family), there was a huge garden and we even had sea view. One day my family took me away with the car and I was already dead excited to be going on a drive. When we stopped in front of the DRCS gate, I didn’t understand that I was supposed to get out of the car because of all the barking and I started to feel a little scared. A friendly Thai man took me in his arms and put me into the teenager compound. I’ve never seen my family again. I’ve never really understood why they wanted to get rid of me but meanwhile I don’t really care anymore. I didn’t really feel comfortable in the teenager compound, I’ve always preferred the bigger dogs. I’m still a pretty young dog and it makes me feel strong when I’m surrounded by all those ‘grownups’. I am looking forward to soon be an adult myself. The food here at the shelter is delicious and definitely much better than it ever was at home.

SKINNY TIGER (female), Temple: Wat Kunaram

We started the Temple Project in 2007 and it has proven to be a big success. Hundreds of dogs and cats in the temples around Samui have been treated without being removed from their familiar environment. No-one really could have predicted just how big this project would become, or how expensive, we currently deliver over 1000kgs of dry food a month, not to mention the costs of the medicines and vaccines we require to ensure everyone stays healthy. We (DRCS) are already suffering financially just to cover the everyday costs of running the shelter, so the additional money needed for the temple project is giving us cause for concern. You can help us keep this important project alive by sponsoring one of our many resident temple dogs. With your help, we can help, by keeping them healthy, happy and safe. With your help they won’t have to rummage the garbage for food or fear for their lives on the street, they can live within the safety of the temples and be checked and well provided for by our dedicated project team every week.
