LARA (female)

I was brought in by Luba and Reno with my three siblings (Bobby, Gucci and Hundi). We were in a very bad condition as we had been separated from our mother too early. We had lots and lots of fleas. I liked it at the shelter as there were lots of dogs to play with but I really needed an owner. After some six months living in Chaweng with Brigitte, I met Anke and Henning from Germany. They only wanted to take Suzie and Julie back to Germany with them but Brigitte asked them to take me too as I was not very well and needed a proper home. On 22 December 2003, Suzie, Julie and I were were put on an aero plane to Germany. It was my first time in an aero plane and I didn't like it at all. After I arrived in Germany, I was very very ill and Anke and Henning feared for my life. However, I'm a Thai dog and I fought my way back to good health. Anke found me a nice home with Anilin who is really nice and she and I love each other very much. I am now learning how to bark in German and have discovered a natural talent for this.

Thank you Eveline from Switzerland for sponsoring me while I was on Koh Samui; thank you to Anke for finding me Anilin; thank you Anilin for loving me; and thank you Brigitte for saving me and giving me a chance to grow old gracefully.

SILVANO (male)

Wallis, Mirko and myself all got to the shelter when we were very little. As tiny woundable puppies we were dropped at the shelter and then went to foster people (which was super fun) until we were fully vaccinated. Unfortunately nobody has been interested in adopting us and so now was the time for us to move out of the puppy house and move into one of the big outside compounds at the shelter. What we all feared turned out to really cool and we just love the big space to run and play around. All is good and we have settled here.

Claudia from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

JUDITH (female)

I had very serious tick fever when I was brought into the dog rescue and could not even walk anymore. Thanks to the very careing volunteers who invested a lot of time in walking training, I feel great today and nobody could tell that I once was so terribly sick. I live at the big shelter in Baan Taling Ngam and thankfully they let me stay in the open kitchen area. It's so much better than being locked up in a compound at the back.

Judith from Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

PIGGY (female)

I was brought to the Dog Rescue for the third time now and unfortunately it seems like my skin just doesn`t want to recover and my fur does not really grow back. Never mind, I sort of got used to it and have settled in well here. I`m thankful for the medication against the itchiness, that helps already a lot. I live at the small shelter in Chaweng and have actually settled in very well. I love the food here too and donīt really want to leave again.

Katrin from Munich in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SUGAR (female)

THANK YOU DOMINIQUE for your support and for making it possible for me to be happy again!

Dominique from the UK is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

KIRO (male)

Iīm already a very old dog, have hardly any teeth left, canīt see anymore and love to sleep and do  nothing. Thatīs exactly what I do here at the shelter. I came here to retire and to chill and to not have to worry about food, water or people who might not like me. Iīm happy to be spending the rest of my time here at the small shelter.

Thorsten and his wife from Biere in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MEGARA (female)

My name is Megara and I'm one of the so called 'Garden Centre-dogs'. It's very unfortunate and sad that I have to get used to a totally new environment - and this at my age! We (almost 10 of us) used to live at a very big garden centre here on Samui and had a great and loving home. One dark day our owner found herself in some pretty serious trouble because of us and she had to immediately find a solution. Of course she couldn't find a home for any of us and so there was no other place for us to go but the Dog Rescue Centre. We are all trying our best to settle in and make our peace with the whole situation...

Hortense from Berlin in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

ROSSA (female)

My name is Rossa, born in the beginning of 2015 and I have been here at the shelter since I was a very small puppy. Together with almost 10 of my very close playmates I have just recently been moved out of the puppy house and into a much bigger outside compound at the Dog Rescue. We all haven't had an easy time and know nothing more than this shelter. I guess it's a good thing so we don't know what we are missing. Still though, sometimes i wish i had my own family. We are all doing well and hope that someone is willing to support us... :-)

Andrea from Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

REMUS (male)

I have been at the shelter for many years alrady. Tom from Switzerland saved me from a market place here on the island who were planning to kill me in 2008. I have only 3 legs, I`m already quite old but hopefully I still have many more happy years ahead of me.

Petra from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SUNNY (female)

Our Mama was a very shy and very thin dog when she decided to settle with us in a very rich part of the island in with all those really fancy villas. Of course not everyone liked us being there and so we had to disappear. Thankfully one family there fell in love with our Mama and decided to keep her as well as 2 of our brothers. Sabi and I were first vaccinated by Jay from the DRCS-TempelTeam and now brought into the puppy house at the shelter. We really hope that we will also find our own family one day....

Petra from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MUSI (female)

I used to live at Tescos in Chaweng until I was picked up by the DRCS for mange treatment. They kept me at the Shelter in Chaweng where I escaped after a short time and run off to the Chaweng Beach. Unfortunately that didn't go that well, I didn't really belong anywhere so I was picked up again and the treatment continued. Meanwhile I have made my peace with it. I'm an old lady now and have a fix place here at the rescue centre, I don't think I will run away again....

Annamaria aus Milian in Italy is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

NANNI (female)

We were three black young doggies and supposed to fly to Canada together. Unfortunately we were thrown into the shelter without being vaccinated first and so it was no big surprise that we got sick. One of us even passed on and now lives in heaven. Thankfully Hanni and I have recovered well and the shelter is now our new home…

Tanja from Asslar-Werdorf in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

FRISCO (female)

Me and my friends Micky, Mona and Pearl as well as my sister Sissy have spent the past few months growing up in the puppy house at the DRCS-shelter, where we’ve gad a great and pretty fun time. We all had to be on daily medication and have never really been 100% healthy. We have seen many dogs coming and going and even though we were happy for every puppy that was lucky enough to be adopted, it was hard not to be the chosen one. Now we are old enough to be spayed and will then be moved out of the puppy house into one of the outside compounds. We heard something about a special teenager compounds, that should be fun too.

Simone and Robert from Stuttgart in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SCRUBBY (male)

Franziska and her family visited me at the shelter and decided to sponsor me, thank you so much! They know that i hate to be here and my only wish is to find my own family and to get out of here... i won't give up hope and believe that one day I will have my own home.

Very good news: I have found a new home on Koh Samui.

While I was living at the shelter, Franziska from Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much!

WHITE NOSE (male)

I was born at the shelter, together wish my 3 brothers and sisters. Why our Mama was here, she never told us. Mama and Mietzi are now in their new home in Germany, Martina has adopted them. Thanks to our lovely nature and good behaviour, my brother Foxi and I are allowed to stay here in Brigittes house and since we've already been castrated, there is no danger for us that we will ever have to move to the big shelter. At night we always fight for the best place in the bed.

Good news: I found a new home on Samui.

While I was living in the shelter, Ilona from Switzerland was looking after me. Thank you very much.

NANA (female)

I was living at the temple for quite a while when the dog catchers from DRCS appeared. At the beginning, I was a little suspicious, because there are not many people feeding us chicken wings. But these were only meant to lull us into a false sense of security since we were not able to run away from the helpers after we had eaten the chicken. I tried to run away but my legs wouldn't move and faster than I knew I sat in a cage. I was very tired and fell asleep. I woke up in a single box (that's how they call the big tiled prison cells. The next day they gave me an injection and when I woke up again I was still sitting in this cell. When I had a look at myself I was shocked to see that there was a cut on my belly. I learned that I wouldn't be able to have babies anymore. After a week my colleagues were brought back to the temple. I was allowed to stay at the shelter because I was too weak to fight for food. Since then I run around the big space in front of house at the shelter. There shouldn't be any dogs – but meanwhile, we are about 8 or 10 dogs gathering there. Obviously, they do not know in which compound they should put us and I hope it will stay this way. I feel very well here because they cook the food for the cats and the dogs in the single boxes. Of course, it is impossible to keep us away from that! When the gate opens and a car drives inside there is always a possibility to go for a walk because the helpers cannot watch us all the time. Besides, I am very fast when it comes to running through the open gate. That's a dog life!

As I've always been a pretty independent dog, I know decided to live my life on my own paws again.

During my time at the shelter, Jean and Merv from New Zealand were looking after me. Thank you very much.

BABY (female)

I was roaming through Lamai like every day searching for something to eat and someone to chat with. And I found both when Mareike and Achim came along. Mareike fell in love with me immediately and she cuddled and kissed me. I didn't tell her that I was pregnant and that I was searching a place to have my babies. I just followed them and walked the 2 km to their guest house with them. I had to pass other dog territories and I had to put up with some things… But it was worth it. At first Mareike and Achim didn't know what to do with me. Mareike took me to the vet and I got an injection and some tablets since my skin and my fur didn't look good at all. (Meanwhile, my fur has grown back completely and I am even more beautiful!!) Then, a friend told Mareike and Achim about the DRCS and the three of us drove on the motorbike to Chaweng: that was fun!! I really enjoyed the ride. When we arrived at the shelter they wanted to keep me right away for castration. But my plan was different: After 2 days I delivered my babies in the big shelter in Ban Taling Ngam. Sadly enough, all my babies died and Mareike and Achim had to go back to Germany. There, they are searching for a new home for me. Unfortunately, they have 2 dogs already and no more space. But I know that they are thinking about me every day and that they miss me. I am very lucky. Mareike has found a new home for me and I will fly to Germany very soon! She kept her word an picked me up herself. On 6th of August 2006 I flew to Germany.

While I was living in the shelter, Mareike from Mainz in Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much!

MOO (female)

I have to make one thing clear: I am only here for a short while. I have lived together with Snuffler with my owners Lucy and Joe on Koh Samui. Unfortunately, they had to go back to England and couldn't take us right away. But that doesn't mean that they leave us behind. Right now they are getting everything done in order to get us over to England. Until then, I will live together with many other cats in the cat house. It doesn't look bad at all, and I am sure it will never be boring.

Lucy and Joe from Bath in England are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SUSIE (female)

I was brought into the shelter in a cardboard box along with my sister Julie. Anke from Germany found us on the street and we had terrible mange. Since coming to the shelter, I have changed my outfit completely as my fur has grown back and I am very soft to cuddle. Julie and I were very shy for the first day at the shelter but now we are the first to greet any guests at the shelter. Anke has just contacted the shelter and has promised to take me and Julie to Germany. I will have to learn to bark in German.

At the 22nd of December the big day came and we flew to Germany.

TWEETY (male)

I used to live at a temple when all the dogs there were caught for castration or sterilization. After one week my colleagues were brought back. However, I had to stay at the shelter because I suffered from TVT. This is a benign tumor which has to be treated with chemotherapy. Once a week, a certain liquid has to be injected into the vein. After four weeks I had recovered. Since I was still very skinny I could stay at the shelter and because it took very long for me to gain some weight I was forgotten and could stay at the shelter. Meanwhile, I have settled in here very well and the daily struggle for food is long forgotten.

Very good news: I have found a new home on Koh Samui.

While I was living at the shelter, Ida and Alexander from Huskvarna in Sweden were looking after me. Thank you very much!

ELLEN (female)

I came with Tiana, Raoul, Tamila and Gerold to DRCS. We were put into a cardboard box and placed on the back of a pick-up belonging to DRCS. Fortunately it did not rain that night. We cried as loud as we could all night, but nobody heard us. Since the box was tightly secured and we were only six weeks old, that is all we could do. Finally in the morning somebody found us. We were so hungry! Brigitte was very delighted when she saw our group in the box. In the beginning Werner gave us additional milk in the bottle. We all felt very comfortable here at DRCS. There was ample food, and most of the big cats were nice to us. The whole day was filled with eating, sleeping and playing. We met Lisa. Lisa (sponsor dogs and cats 25) is a very special cat. She is devotedly taking care of all kittens. She lets us suck at her nipples - that is really calming. And she always cleaned us thoroughly and showed us how to do that. Lisa has nurtured so many kittens without mothers - that is why
she is loved very much by already grown up cats. We had to be quick to get a place at her breast. Since we were taken care of so well by Lisa, we are all big and strong by now. We are still living at DRCS and feel very comfortable.

As I've always been a pretty independent cat, I know decided to live my life on my own paws again.

During my time at the shelter, Claus and Daniela from Vienna in Austria were looking after me. Thank you very much.
