EVA (female)

I have been staying at the DRCS for a long time. Since I do not really attract attention, Brigitte just noticed that I still do not have a godparent. I was taken to the DRCS at the age of eight weeks, because there was hardly any chance that I would survive on my own. Now there is not much space left here and I have decided to live in front of the gates at the big building site. There is plenty of room and there are already some other dogs who also thought there was not enough room. Of course all of us are fed and medically treated if necessary. Who wants me?

Markus and Eva took me to Germany.

While I was in the shelter Angelika and Stephan ook care of me. Thank you!

SILVO (male)

Silvana from Switzerland has saved my life! She picked me up in Lamai when i was in a horrible condition and covered in open wounds. She got me to the Dog Rescue and made sure that everything had to be done to make me feel better. My dream is it to one day have a new home in Switzerland, that's what Silvana promised me and I believe in my dream! Thank you for giving me a new chance!

Roger from Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you vey much!

LUCKY LISA (female)

I came to the Dog Rescue in 2015 as a so called 'look-after-dog' and my owner paid for me to be cared for every month. I was actually thinking that i could return to him after some time but that was not the case. He stopped picking up the phone and nobody knew where i came from. So I am now an official Shelter dog and have (thankfully) been let out of the small compound and can now live in the open kitchen area at the shelter. I love to be free and sometimes i even go all the way out of the main gate and

Ben from Australia is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SPARKLE (female)

I'm young and beautiful and believe that one day i will also look like it.... I have recovered from a very sick puppy to a happy young dog and i'm positive that my fur will also come back one day. For now I'm just greatful that someone is taking care of me.

Chelsea from Victoria in Canada is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

RAMBO (male)

I am actually a pretty good looking little fellow (beside my funny teeth of course) and can still not quite understand how my owner could abandon me like this. He had no problem lying to the people from the Dog Rescue when he dropped me off at the shelter. Even though he assured everyone that he would come back for me, he never did. I am a healthy and quite funny little doggie and live now with the hope that one day someone will come along and give me a new home.

Manuela from the Fürstentum Liechtenstein is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SANDY (male)

I was only brought into the shelter because someone promised to take me to Europe. Unfortunately this never happened and since I've been hanging around here for so long I now don't really have a place to go back to. I guess I will stay here for the rest of my life. Ja well, my time of being depressed is over and I'm actually having a pretty cool time here and the people are great!

Aaro from Finland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MENTOS (male)

My name is Mentos, born in the late summer of 2014 and I have been here at the shelter since I was a very small puppy. Together with almost 10 of my very close playmates I have just recently been moved out of the puppy house and into a much bigger outside compound at the Dog Rescue. We all haven't had an easy time and know nothing more than this shelter. I guess it's a good thing so we don't know what we are missing. Still though, sometimes i wish i had my own family. We are all doing well and hope that someone is willing to support us... :-)

Steffi from Hamburg in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

KRETA (female)

I live at the big shelter in a compound with many other young dogs. I don't like the humans that much and nobody is allowed to touch me. I've never quite understood how the other dogs can freak out with joy as soon as a human enters the compound...this really isn't my thing. I like watching them work but won't let them touch me. Even though I'm not the friendlies little dog, I still hope someone will support me with a sponsorship....

Sandra from Munich in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

I was very lucky and found a new home on Koh Samui.

BIG BOY (male)

I have been in and out of the Dog Rescue Center in Baan Taling Ngam several times. Whenever the mange got a little better and my fur grew back, I could go home again. I used to live on the street, on the beach…or wherever I just felt like going to. Unfortunately my mange keeps coming back and therefore it’s the best I stay here. I can stay in Chaweng and can go in and out the way I want. Like this I’m free but still get my medication and the horrible itchy feeling has stopped.

Mariola and Jürg from Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

HAMMER (male)

I was brought into the rescue center with a huge a pretty serious wound on my head and never thought I could ever recover from such an injury. Even though I don't look as handsome with my hanging ear as I used to, I still feel pretty and have learned that it's not all about the looks. I have settled well in the shelter and I'm very happy that i can stay here now.

Karen from Perth in Australia is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MEIKA (female)

I felt very confused and had to face serious mental problems after I suffered from tick fever. Thankfully I was allowed to stay in the puppy house area where I was well looked after and people kept a close eye on me. The little one in the puppy house brought some joy back into my life and now as I'm much better I try to give something back to them too. That is why they let me stay here with the little ones...

Gerlinde from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

ZIDA (female)

Me and my friends Frisco, Mona, Micky and Pearl have spent the past few months growing up in the puppy house at the DRCS-shelter, where we’ve gad a great and pretty fun time. We all had to be on daily medication and have never really been 100% healthy. We have seen many dogs coming and going and even though we were happy for every puppy that was lucky enough to be adopted, it was hard not to be the chosen one. Now we are old enough to be spayed and will then be moved out of the puppy house into one of the outside compounds. We heard something about a special teenager compounds, that should be fun too.

I was very lucky and found a new home on Koh Samui.

During my time at the shelter, Susanne from Austria was looking after me. Thank you very much!

KLARA (female)

Me and my other black sister and brothers were found by tourists on the very busy beach road of Chaweng. A small carton that was standing on the side of the road had become our last shelter. We were about 6 weeks old and were able to eat on our own. But there was no one who wanted to take care of us. Moreover, there were some dogs in this area. For small cats, encounters with street dogs are usually fatal. Most dogs are cat killers! The Thai people in the stores around hadn't seen us before and didn't want to keep us. We have all grown up now and the shelter feels like home to us. Unless someone nice decides to adopt us, we will happily stay here forever.

Rachel from Australia is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

LISA MARIE (female)

I was brought to the DRCS by Lena and Kerry. They have stayed at Lisa Resort, hence my name. The manager in the Resort did not like me and even threatened to poison me. I had made friends with Lena and Kerry but unfortunately, the two had to leave one day. Since they did not want to leave me behind at the Resort, they brought me to Brigitte. I hadn't been spayed and was quite mangy; that's why I had to stay in a cage in the cat room for a while. But now I have recovered and live together with all the other cats in the cat house.

Gabriela from Milan in Italy is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

KIRA (female)

Since I was a little puppy I believed that our family was a little strange. We are 6 brothers and sisters and every one of us looks totally different. One is white/brown, one is black, the other has a little beard, another one has quite short hair….a total strange mix! Even our characters are different. I don’t remember where we were born. We were separated from our mother when we were only 8 weeks old, totally mangy and underfed and therefore nobody wanted to adopt us. It looks like we will spend our life here at the shelter- not too bad though but an own family would definitely be a dream!

Alana from the USA is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

DUCHESS (female)

I was dropped in a little basket outside the DRCS-office in Chaweng. I was very thin and totally shy and funny enough, at first nobody noticed the two little kittens I had hidden under my belly. The lovely people from the Rescue Centre gave me food and water but let me sit in the basket for a couple of hours until my much bigger box was ready. You should have seen their eyes when I was pulled out of the box and my two babies appeared. All is good now and we are getting fed delicious food every day.

I was very lucky and found a new home on Koh Samui.

During my time at the shelter, Christina from Austria was looking after me. Thank you very much!

BIGGI (female)

I was living in a house with an old lady and my feline friends Nihat Song, Scarlet and Panja. We kept our owner happy by sitting with her and purring all day long. She loved us very much but she became unwell and had to go and live with her son in a far off land. Our owner wanted to take us with her but her son didn't want that as he has four dogs. So, we were brought to the shelter where we now share our new house with lots and lots of new cat friends.

Good news: I found a new home on Samui.

While I was living in the shelter, Jerry from Amsterdam in the Netherlands was looking after me. Thank you very much.

MELENE (female)

I was found close to a very expensive hotel. The manager had given the order to chase away all the dogs that were living around that place. I wouldn't let them chase me away; therefore, I was caught and brought to the DRCS. The expensive hotels do not like to have dogs around. If I wouldn't have been admitted to the DRCS the manager would have found other methods to “chase me away”. In Thailand you can buy very effective poison in almost every supermarket and the “dog problem” can be solved over the night.

Animal friends from Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

LUCKY (female)

I used to live in a lovely little garden center in the Chaweng area, where I knew everyone and had a lot of friends and other dogs to play with. Unfortunately my people had to close the shop down because somebody else planned to build a fancy restaurant there. My people could not take me with them and the new restaurant owners didn't like me and didn't give me any food until I was so thin that I had to get serious treatments. Thankfully the lovely volunteer girls from the Rescue Center cared enough about me and made sure that I got my place in the DRCS where I have now found a lot of new friends to play with.

Sandy and Sven from Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

HILTON (male)

Great news: I found a new home on Koh Samui!

While I was staying at the DRCS, Alexandra from Germany was looking after me. Thank you very much!

ROXETTE (female)

My brother Waterloo and I grew up at the temple in Plai Laem. We were two happy little puppies and had great fun with all the tourists, the monks and the other dogs. At least once/week the temple Team from the DRCS Jay and Linda came to visit and gave us strange tablets and sometimes even an injection. Of course we hated that but knew why we had to go through all that. We were basically furless, naked! Unfortunately the medicine didn’t work and things got pretty bad. When our skin started to open, we had to be brought to the shelter since nobody could really give us daily medication. It’s pretty ok here and we see Jay and Linda a lot here, too. The mange is still a big issue and nobody knows, why we are not getting better. At least the medicine we get now helps with the itching.

Susanne from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SHIVA (female)

After this really unfriendly hotel manager called the DRCS and told them to better come and pick me up immediately...or...., I landed here at the shelter. I don't like it so much and have never really enjoyed the company of the humans. But I'm a strong character and will give my best to somehow fit it. The other dogs here at the shelter aren't too bad and sometimes even fun to play with.

Alana from the USA is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

STELLA (female)

Sadi and I were dropped together outside the DRCS-Shelter. Nobody knows where we come from (and like to go back to) and it looks very much like we have to stay here at the shelter for the rest of our lives. The one positive thing is that apparently the DRCS-people are trying to find us a new home in Europe. Wouldn’t that be super!?

JANA (female)

My owner had brought me to Brigitte because he wanted me to be castrated. He left his phone number and wanted to pick me up after the operation. Well, he lied! The phone number was wrong and so I was waiting for a while in a cage. After a while Brigitte realized that my owner wouldn't come to get me so she opened the door to let me run in her garden. Immediately, I liked it in Brigitte's house and she fell in love with me (no wonder, because of my good looks). Now I live at Brigitte's house with a lot of other cats, good food and plenty of water. And the best thing is. I am allowed to sleep in her bed.

After some time at Brigitte and Werners hous, Jana run away.

During the stay at the DRCS, Janette from Denmark was looking after me.

DOMMEL (female)

I was taken to the DRCS by a tourist because I was very very thin and I was being chased by the other dogs all the time. I was castrated immediately and when I had nearly recovered, nobody could really remember where my original home was. I was then allowed to stay at the DRCS! What luck!

Bruno from Switzerland will take care of me. Thank you very much!

DAENG (male)

When I was about three months old, a silly construction worker painted me red with oil paint, without realizing that by doing so he almost killed me. Some animal friends took me to the DRCS and there Dr. Somsak treated me. Since the paint was already dry, it could not be removed with any solvent. It took me days to tear out all that scabby red fur. And I can tell you that it hurt like hell!!! But I did not stop until the last bit of paint was gone, as was most of my coat and my back was completely naked. My coat has grown back nicely and now I have turned into a handsome tomcat. I am living in Brigitte's house with two other cats and I do hope that the large number of dogs living next to the house will have an animal home soon, because then our excursions into "freedom" will not be that stressful. My name really should be DAM ('black' in Thai) but thanks to the red color I am called DAENG ('red' in Thai).

Airlie from Australia has adopted me. Thank you very much!

The house became too busy for me so I've moved in with Brigitte's neighbour. Sometimes I wave over at Brigitte just to say hello.

Yes, that's me, five years before

MAC (male)

I have been living at the DRCS since the year 2000. I was brought to Brigitte's and Werner's house by some tourists together with my brother PING when we were 3 years old. I not only had lost my mother but also my fur. It was itching badly and I was always hungry. I had been chased away very often because people were scared that they might catch a disease. It was a very hard time for me! But that was over when I came to Brigitte's house. I immediately got a delicious rice meal and dry food was always at hand. I was at dog's paradise! Well, not quite. One of the helpers sprayed me with some stinking liquid every week – that was not really great. Nevertheless, the itching stopped already after the first treatment and very soon my fur began to grow. When I was brought to Brigitte's house there didn't exist a wall around the house so we all played around on the terrace. There were not so many dogs at the house and cats didn't live there at all. Bad luck, I'm a good hunter! After a while they built a fence around the house and I had to quit my walks to the market. It even got worse! On the 15th of November 2002 the first compound of the shelter in Ban Taling Ngam was completed and I was brought there with many of my dog friends. We have a lot of space to run around – but unfortunately there are not as many visitors. I love to be stroked.

Vanessa from Germany is looking after me now. Thank you very much!

Josie & Julie before and after Josie (mother) had a hair cut at Sakda's Beauty Parlour

JULIE AND JOSIE (females)

We are mother and daughter and were living very happily with our owner until she decided she couldn't look after us - we have special hair which has become matted because our owner wouldn't brush us or give us a haircut. So, soon we will be visiting Sakda's Beauty Parlour when we will get a cut 'n' blow dry and possibly even a manicure. Brigitte says that, if a new home is found, the two of us must stay together.

Pearl, Ken and Denise from New Zealand are looking after us now. Thank you very much!

Round 2 at Sakda's Beauty Parlour
At last, we've made it into the house

Unfortunately Julie passed away. Our thoughts are with her.

MERLIN (male)

I am from Lamai. I was so afraid, I could only sit in a corner at the Food centre. Some nice tourists brought me to the Rescue Centre but, at first, I was frightened of the other cats at the Centre. However, the other cats ignored me completely and, after a while, I stopped being frightened of them. So, when a new cat comes to the Centre, I ignore it like the other cats ignored me. Now at the Centre, I play with the other cats all day and I sleep on the bed at night.

Jess from England is now taking care of me. Thank you very much.

Sven from Zwickau in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

CLEA (female)

When I got pregnant, the people who were looking after me did not want me anymore and threatened to kill me. Thankfully I was picked up by some lovely people from the DRCS and looked after my babies at their puppy house for a while. I don't know why, but none of my babies survived. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I got cancer. Anyway, I am doing a lot better now and I am happy that I can live in the puppy house and be around my great caretakers every day.

Great news: I found a new home on Koh Samui!

While I was staying at the DRCS, Monika from Austria was looking after me. Thank you very much!

SIRA (female)

I arrived at the DRCS about 2 months ago (beginning of 2010) together with my new babies and my sister. My babies all died and my sister found a new owner. I am a good natured and quiet kinda girl who's looking for a new family. Until then, I hope to find someone who would like to sponsor me. It's actually quite ok here at the shelter and as long as I can live in the puppy house my world's all alright...

Hurrah, I've found a home with a couple of nice animal friends who live on the island. The food I get at my new joint is the soft cat food and not mixed with rice - ah bliss! They promised I can go back to the DRCS any time.
